Nutcracker Sweets Dec. 2nd
The third annual "Nutcracker Sweets”, a dessert sampling extravaganza and celebration, will be held at Bessie Smith Hall on Tuesday, December 2, 2008 from 6 - 8 p.m. This event will feature one-of-a kind desserts prepared by local chefs including St. John's Restaurant, Between the Bridges Cafe, Chef Jernard Wells, Cake Gallery, 212 Market Street, City Cafe and many more. Gourmet coffees will be provided by Southern Coffee Service. Chattanooga State instrumental and vocal ensembles, led by Darrin Hassevoort, will provide live music for the evening.
A silent auction featuring themed baskets and holiday items will make for easy holiday shopping, as will a unique gift shop featuring handmade Swarovsky crystal jewelry by Onelia Jewelry and hand painted ceramic ornaments. In addition, the gift shop will also feature stainless steel travel mugs, good for free coffee refills at Main & Mocha during the month of January, on sale for just $15 each and pre-decorated, ready to gift.
New this year, Chattanooga Times Free Press Food Editor Anne Braly will be judging all chef desserts and selecting the first Nutcracker Sweets "Sweet Feats" winner. In addition, a new "Home Chefs" contest will feature desserts prepared by "amateur" chefs and judged by Ms. Braly. "Home Chef" contestants may enter their dessert by calling (423) 697-3829. Deadline for entries is Nov. 25th.
Proceeds will benefit the Partnership’s Crisis and Emergency Services. These services include the Family Violence Shelter, Sexual Assault Center, Emergency Shelter for Families, and Transitions Shelter for homeless and low income women. Each year, the Partnership provides crisis intervention services, emergency hotlines, counseling, shelter, advocacy and referral services to more than 3,000 individuals and families in our community.
