Over 300 people joined us as we celebrated VDay, the global movement to raise awareness and end violence against women and girls. Gloria Pogue directed a benefit production of Eve Ensler's The Vagina Monologues, a community performance organized by E'tienne Easley last weekend. The audience was moved to both laugh and cry along with the actresses as they performed their monologues. Special thanks to Chattanooga State Technical Community College for use of their facilities, and to Starkey Printing for free production of the playbill. Many special thanks go out to each member of the cast who put on a wonderful show!

Nearly all the proceeds from the production will benefit the Partnership's Sexual Assault Center and Family Violence Shelter and Services. These two programs have provided services to thousands of women in the Greater Chattanooga area, including safe shelter, rape exams, court advocacy, counseling and referrals to other support services.

The Partnership and Bryan College Seminar on Human Trafficking

January 22nd

Slavery thrives today in the form of human trafficking - a system wherein humans use and abuse other humans for economic gain - for labor, for sexul exploitation, and for body parts. Children and women are primary victims. More people are enslaved today - between 27 and 30 million - than at any other time in recorded history. The Partnership serves a similar population of vulnerable women and children through our Sexual Assault Center, Family Violence Shelter and Youth Services programs. These are all our children, the community's children, and we are driven by our mission of empowering people to build better lives to help them.

This preconference criminal justice forum will feature New Scotland Yard (NSY) and will be led by Mr. Dennis Miller, Bryan's Executive Director of External Relations. Together, these groups have teamed up to provide the city of Chattanooga and its surrounding counties with this unique crime stoppping forum addressing human trafficking. Detectives from he NSY Operation Maxim Human Trafficking Team, based out of London, England, will be guest speakers. This seminar kicks off a national conference hosted by Bryan College titled The Criminal Justice Response to Human Trafficking, held Jan. 23-25 at Bryan College.

The Partnership's Youth Services program will soon offer new leadership training to youth served through the Gardner House for Boys and Northbridge House for Girls, thanks to a grant from the Peyback Foundation. Youth Services staff will utilize the Rising Stars Youth Leadership Program to help youth develop their ability to make positive life choices based upon sound values and a vision of a successful future. The program is also intended to help boost their GPA's and to develop positive attitudes and self-confidence, which can reduce risk behaviors. It is designed to help today's youth develop their personal leadership skills and begin to set goals and direction for their lives. The Youth Services staff are thrilled to have received this grant award and look forward to the impact it will have on the youth they serve.

The Peyback Foundation was established by Indianapolis Colts quarterback and former UT Vols quarterback, Peyton Manning, in 1999. The foundation awarded a record $606,000 this year to charities serving disadvantaged youth in Indiana, Tennessee, and New Orleans. The Partnership's grant award was one of 34 agencies in Tennessee receiving a grant.
